Yale's propensity

John Fund, the Wall Street Journal writer who I quoted here, is again probing Yale's questionable actions, past and present. It seems the Taliban isn't the only totalitarian group the university represents.

Fred is mad

You'd think this guy was sitting on something akin to Fort Knox.

Run away, yo ho

I'm sure that Somalian sea pirates are tough characters, but even so can you imagine how stupid the decision was to fire upon this ship?

Apparently the Somali sailors were absent on the day they passed out the ship identification cards in pirate school and they mistook the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser for a cruise ship.

Read about the engagement and aftermath here.

IDPA

I spent a few hours at the range yesterday observing an IDPA classifier match. I've never shot in any organized event so I wanted to see what it was all about. As soon as I've had some practice with my 229 I'll be good to go. The DA/SA progression on the 229 will require some practice.

There were a lot of Glocks being shot as well as 1911 style pistols. I even saw a Hi Power although he was having some malfunctions. One or two were shooting revolvers. One gentleman got some advice from the scorekeeper with regard to holstering his Glock. That advice was "it's a good idea to watch your holter as you are inserting your gun to make sure there is nothing caught up with the trigger."

No one seemed to be shooting 357 SIG but that will soon change ;)
